My it's been a BIG (Alright, HUGE!) last few weeks around here so I wanted to take a moment to tell you what I personally am thankful for after the outcome of the election. Here is the quick, in the heat of the moment message that I sent to a few of my closest friends mere seconds after Ohio and the final result was called.
"OK, while in the thick of it here I wanted to take a moment to let you all know what I am most thankful for RIGHT NOW! I am thankful for the strength in knowing that there still may be some hope and promise in our fair country. I am thankful for the fact that three more states in our union have legalized gay marriage, I am thankful that a few more strong-willed women (one of them being a lesbian) have gained political power, I am thankful for the promise that I WILL continue to have health care no matter what, and among many other milestones, I am thankful for the promise of a future where the middle class has a chance to continue to thrive. Good night!"
Although, no presidency will ever be perfect and we are still mired in some very difficult times, (inevitably with more to come), we felt that there was still a lot to celebrate and be thankful for, so a trip to The District was definitely in order!
Here's a quick rundown of some of the many "not-to-be-missed" spots in which we looked, learned, ate, drank and were merry:
The Smithsonian Institute, including the Natural History Museum, The Cooper-Hewitt, The Hirshhorn and The American History Museum. The Capital tour, including the House and Senate. The National Archives where you can view the top three US docs, The Declaration of Independence, The Constitution and The Bill of Rights. The very powerful museum of the history of President Abraham Lincoln at Ford's Theater. Food and drink wise? Spanish chef Jose Andres not to be missed Mexican restaurant Oyamel. The lovely, suited to your personal taste cocktails at The Gibson. Eric Ripert's Westend Bistro. The infamous chili half smoke at Ben's Chili Bowl. Classic Manhattan's at the old school DC, politico fave dive bar, The Tune Inn. The amazing variety of delicious east and west coast raw offerings at Hank's Oyster Bar. The perfectly light and delicious calamari along side classic Martini's and Negroni's lovingly served by, Allison at the bar in the The Capital Grille, to name just a few!
Wishing you all a Happy Thanksgiving filled with family, friends, love and of course, food, glorious food!
What will you be serving this year?
